Video resumes are emerging, so why not videos about your company?

In the last couple of months, video resumes have been getting more airtime in the news.

Now that’s a great way for your company to get to know the applicants before meeting them but do the applicants really know your company? Work environment, culture, benefits, perks, career growth, opportunities within the company… not things that are easily communicated via the company’s career website.

And with the baby boomer generation entering retiring age, hiring quality workers to fill the gap will become increasingly competitive. So how do you get the message out especially to the Gen Y’s that are entering the workforce?

Now imagine if your company had an “inside look/testimonial” video and it was posted on YouTube.

You as the happily employeed employee can show off what a great company you work for by embedding that YouTube video in your Jobster profile. For example, here’s Jake Carter’s Jobster profile where he’s embedded a YouTube video that shows a clip of the Today Show talking about his company (Google) as Fortune’s Top Place to Work. How cool is that?!

And if I wanted to know more I could leave him a note on Jobster or read more about his experience at Google on his Jobster profile. It would help if Jake answered some questions though. (Umm, Jake, how about posting some answers about Google? We want to know what it’s like to work there!)

Well to give you an example, here’s my Jobster profile where I’ve answered some questions about my current company. Go ahead and take a look. Do you come away gaining a tidbit of information that you wouldn’t have gotten from the company website? Probably. (If not, you’re probably one of my co-workers.) Most importantly, you’ve just received insight into a company from someone that actually works there versus a polished marketing message on the the company’s career website.

Now imagine you’re a recruiter at Google and you have the same video or perhaps Google’s recruiting video embedded into your Jobster profile. Well, if someone were to do a search on Jobster for people tagged with “Google”, you’re profile would come up in the results… are you getting it? Are you seeing the power of video?

One more thing, I’ve embedded a really cool video about web2.0 on my Jobster profile. Check it out! And no, I didn’t create that video.
